The William Henry Harris Camp 1395 was founded on December 5, 1981 in Fort Lauderdale Florida. The 13 founding Charter members selected the name of a locally interred Confederate Veteran, and honored his anonymous CSA service, as the Camp’s namesake.  Like thousands of Confederate Veterans, Pvt. William Henry Harris served his country faithfully, without reward beyond sense of duty.

Over the past 30 years the Camp has maintained an active membership committed to upholding the charge given by Stephen Dill Lee. The Camp has always been active in community service activities, honoring historical events, participating in local reenactments and conducting historical educational demonstrations in a variety of different venues.

The tradition of honoring Confederate Veterans on Confederate Memorial Day since it’s inception, took on new significance when the Camp pioneered the concept of a regional, area wide observance, involving other area camps. The Memorial Day Motorcade became a tri - county event, wherein several camps combined to visit every cemetery in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties where a Confederate Veteran is interred. In conjunction with local United Daughters of the Confederacy Chapters, and Order of Confederate Rose groups, each of 171 graves is visited, decorated with flowers and a Confederate flag. A Benediction,  Roll Call of Honor,  21 gun salute and Honor Guard  ceremony is performed at each cemetery. This all day event has expanded beyond the original 3 counties.

Camp 1395 is proud of it's many years honoring our Confederate ancestors and providing community service. We look forward to welcoming men into the organization committed to preserving, protecting and honoring the good name of the Confederate soldier.
